Achievements and unlocks
Every achievement and every thing to find in your valley, and how to get each one.
Updated
Grove has two pages that remember what you did:
- Review: every milestone you reach, such as "30 days in a row", under a look back at your week. It was called Achievements until 1.7. Added in 1.7
- Unlocked: everything you have seen in your own valley, such as the fox or a rainbow.
For the rest of the app, see How Grove works and Weather and seasons.
How both pages work
- Grove reads your whole history each time it starts. Anything you reached while the app was closed is added quietly, with its real date. For example a trail flag, or a habit you completed from a home-screen widget.
- While the app is open, when you earn something new:
- a short message shows at the bottom of the screen, and
- a sound plays, if sounds are on (Settings → Sounds, called Sounds and vibration on Android).
- Achievements that come at the same time share one message. Unlocks that come at the same time share another.
- Filling in or changing a past day (see Filling in a missed day) adds what it earns quietly, with the day it was reached: no message and no sound.
- But if the change makes something new show in the valley now, such as trout leaping once the river runs full, that find gets its message as usual. It has really just appeared. Added in 1.1
- Your backups keep both lists.
- Restoring a backup puts back the backup's lists. Grove then adds anything the history shows.
- A backup from an older version of Grove, without these lists, still restores. Grove builds the achievements again from the history, and the unlocks that come from history (plants, flags, the animals that come with time, and wildflowers). Sights such as the sky, the weather and the seasons have to be found again.
- The milestones you set yourself on a habit you let go of (such as "After 2 weeks: a new book") are not achievements. They are ticked off on the habit's page.
Achievements
The page
- On the Review page, the achievements come under Your week, with their count. Added in 1.7
- Achievements are grouped by month, newest first.
- Filters at the top: All, Growing, Letting go and Valley, each with a count. They show when you have achievements in at least two of these groups.

- Tap an achievement to open its habit, if the habit still exists.
- Your week, near the top, looks back at one week at a time: what each habit did, and the achievements reached and things found that week (see How Grove works). Added in 1.1
- Achievements stay for good, even after you delete the habit.
- A deleted habit's achievements keep the name it had, with the note "No longer tracked".
- An archived habit's achievements stay too, with the note "Archived". Tap one to open your archived habits, where you can restore it. Once it is restored, they are as before. Added in 1.1
- Most achievements are earned once. If you lose a streak and reach 30 days again, the first date stays. "Back on track", "Reached the summit" and "Higher than ever" can be earned again.
Replay your valley Added in 1.6
- In the Review page's menu (⋯), Replay your valley plays your valley back, from the day your first habit began to today.
- Plants grow, climbers go up their trails, the seasons turn and the visitors come, on the days they really did. Each day is worked out from your history by the same rules as the valley itself.
- Over it are the month and the season, such as "March 2025 · Spring", and what happened: each habit as it began, and each visitor as it first came. It ends on your valley as it is today.
- Every day is shown in the morning light and in calm weather, so nothing hides the valley.
- Habits you archived come and go on their own days. Habits you deleted took their history with them, so they are not in it.
- Pause it, play it, or drag the slider to any day. Watch again plays it from the start. On a computer, the space bar pauses and plays, and the arrow keys step through it.
- With animations turned off on your device, it opens on today, and the slider goes back through it.
- It takes from 6 seconds, for a month or less, to 36 for a long history.
Growing (habits you build)
- Days in a row: 3, 7, 14, 21, 30, 50, 100, 200 and 365 days.
- For habits due on set days, only those days count.
- Days when the habit was paused don't break a streak (see How Grove works).
- For habits due "a number of times each week", Grove counts weeks in a row instead: 2, 4, 8, 12, 26, 52 and 104 weeks.
- Weeks start on the day you choose in Settings → Valley and calendar, and a habit's first week asks for less when you start mid-week (see How Grove works). Changing the week start groups past weeks again, but never takes an achievement away. Added in 1.1
- Growth stages: the first sprout, a sapling, fully grown, thriving.
- See the table of stages in How Grove works.
- Times done: 10, 50, 100, 250, 500 and 1000 times in all, such as "Done 50 times".
- A spare day saved the streak: the first time a saved spare day covers a missed day. (Until 1.6, "A rain day saved the streak".) Added in 1.6
- Back on track: you had a streak of 7 days or more (or 4 weeks or more), lost it, and then built a new streak of 7 days (or 4 weeks).
- You can earn this more than once.
Letting go (habits you quit)
- Trail flags: 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months clean. Each flag counts the first time only.
- Reached the summit: a whole year clean.
- You can earn it again: once for each climb that reaches a year, after a slip. The next one is "Reached the summit again".
- Higher than ever: after a slip, you climb past your old best.
- The old best must be at least one day.
- You can earn it again, each time a new climb passes your best.
- Urges resisted: 1, 10, 25, 50, 100 and 250 in all.
Valley (all habits together)
- Planted the first seed or Set out on the first trail: your first habit.
- Growing and letting go: you have a habit to build and a habit to quit at the same time.
- A full valley: 10 plants in the valley, so every spot by the river is taken.
- Perfect days: days when every habit that was due got done.
- 1, 10, 50, 100 and 250 perfect days in all.
- 7 and 30 perfect days in a row.
- Only habits you build with set days count (every day, or some days of the week). Habits due "a number of times each week" and habits you quit don't make or break a perfect day.
- Days with nothing due are skipped. Today counts once everything is done.
- A day saved by a spare day is not a perfect day.
- Tasks don't make or break a perfect day. Added in 1.3
- Tasks done: 1, 10, 50 and 100 tasks finished in all. Each is also a stage of the cottage. Deleting a task never takes one away. Added in 1.3
- A clear day: the first day you finish every task due that day. Added in 1.3
Rewards for steady care Added in 1.7
- Keeping your habits day after day earns gifts for your valley. They come with the days you keep a habit, and stay for good.
- A day counts when you complete a habit you are growing, or resist an urge on one you are letting go of. The days need not be in a row, and a day counts once however many habits you kept. The days of habits you have archived count too.
- Winter lights, at 100 days: small warm lights along the bridge's rail each winter, the mild winter too, glowing after dark.
- When one comes, a short message says so, with See to show it.
- You see the lights wherever your valley has its bridge: in zen mode, on the Your valley widget, and on most tablets and computers. A phone's Valley page is often too narrow for the bridge.
- They show at the top of the Unlocked page, with how many days the next one needs. Once earned, a reward is never lost, even if you later delete the days that earned it.
- They are on at first. Turn them off in Settings → Reminders and encouragement → Rewards for steady care. What you earned is kept, and comes back when you turn them on again.
Unlocks
The page
- Unlocks are grouped by kind. Each card shows a small picture.
- At the top are the rewards for steady care, while they are on, and the page's ⋯ menu has Utilities, such as Notes. Added in 1.7
- A card you have not found yet is grey, with a hint that says how to find it.

- Tap a card to see it bigger, with the date you found it.
- The bigger picture moves: rain falls and animals stir, and every other picture has something going on too. Stars twinkle, the sun and moon glow, the shooting star crosses again and again, clouds drift and plants sway. Added in 1.6

- Some things can only happen in some climates. Those are hidden if they can't happen where you live, unless you already found them.
- A four-seasons climate (northern or southern) shows 64 things.
- The monsoon climate shows 61 things.
- With tasks on, the cottage adds 5 more to either.
How Grove notices things
- From your history, with the real date: plants, trail flags, the teal flag, butterflies, songbirds, the deer, the fox, and wildflowers.
- From the valley while Grove is open: the sky, the weather, the seasons, the rare moments, the bridge lanterns, a golden day, fireflies, leaping trout and the hawk.
- Any page of the app counts, as long as Grove is open on the screen.
- They count once you have planted or set out on your first habit. Before that the valley isn't yours yet, so nothing is found.
- Grove checks every 30 seconds while the app is open.
- So you find these by opening the app at the right time.
- The hawk and the Milky Way are only found in zen mode's tall sky. A wide window shows them beside your habits too, but only zen mode counts.
- A shooting star is found the moment you see one cross the sky, on the Valley page or in zen mode. It is there for less than a second, so Grove doesn't wait for its 30-second check. Added in 1.4
- Days of care: the animals come with time. A habit you build counts its plant's growth days (see "How a plant grows" in How Grove works). A habit you quit counts the days of a clean climb.
Visitors
| Visitor | How to find it |
|---|---|
| Butterflies | 7 days of care. |
| Songbirds | 21 days of care, or finish everything due today while the sun is up. |
| The deer | 30 days of care. |
| The fox | 100 days of care. |
| Leaping trout | Keep the river full: about 60% or more of your due days kept in the last week. Not in snowy winter. |
| The hawk | Open zen mode by day and look at the sky. |
| Fireflies | Open the app at night, when it is not raining hard. Not in snowy winter. |
- "Snowy winter" is the winter of the four-seasons climates. The monsoon climate's mild winter has trout and fireflies.
Sky
| Sky | How to find it |
|---|---|
| Sunrise | Open the app as the sun comes up. |
| Golden hour | Open the app in the warm light before sunset. |
| A starry night | Open the app on a clear night (few clouds). |
| The full moon | Open the app when the full moon is up. |
| A crescent moon | Open the app when a thin moon is up, a few days from new moon. |
| A rainbow | See a rainbow. See Weather and seasons for when they come. |
| The Milky Way | Open zen mode on a clear, dark night. |
| A shooting star | Watch the sky on a clear, dark night. Added in 1.4 |
- The sun and the moon follow your real sky, so these depend on your place and the real date.
Weather
| Weather | How to find it | Climate |
|---|---|---|
| Rain | See a shower while some habits are still not done. | all |
| A downpour | See a heavy shower, with many habits still not done. | all |
| Rain at night | See a shower after dark. | all |
| Monsoon rain | See rain in the monsoon months (June to September). | monsoon |
| Snowfall | See the valley in winter, when it is not raining hard. | four seasons |
| Falling leaves | See the valley in autumn, when it is not raining hard. | four seasons |
| Spring petals | See the valley in spring, when it is not raining hard. | four seasons |
- Rain stops when all of today's habits are done. So to see rain, open the app before you finish.
Seasons
- Open the app in each season of your climate:
- Four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, winter.
- Monsoon: hot summer, monsoon, after the rains, mild winter.
- The months of each season are in Weather and seasons.
Rare moments
These need two things at the same time.
| Moment | How to find it | Climate |
|---|---|---|
| A monsoon rainbow | A rainbow in the monsoon months. | monsoon |
| Rain under a full moon | A night shower while the full moon is up. | all |
| Snow by night | Snow falling at night in winter. | four seasons |
| Butterflies on a perfect day | Everything done today, with butterflies in the valley. | all |
| The fox by moonlight | The fox at night, with the moon up and about half full or more. | all |
| Fireflies after rain | Fireflies within 2 hours after Grove last showed rain. | all |
| A rainbow over the deer | The deer and a rainbow at the same time. | all |
| The fox in the snow | The fox while snow is falling. | four seasons |
- "Fireflies after rain" needs Grove open during the rain and again after it. Closing the app forgets when it last rained.
Plants
- 4 plants × 5 stages = 20 cards: oak, pine, fern and sunflower, each as a seed, sprout, sapling, grown plant and thriving plant.
- Plant the habit to find the seed. Keep completing it to find the next stages.
| Stage | How to find it |
|---|---|
| Seed | Plant a habit with this plant |
| Sprout | Complete it once |
| Sapling | About a week of care |
| Grown | About a month of care |
| Thriving | About 100 days of care |
The trail
- One card for each flag on a quit habit's trail: 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months clean.
- The summit: a whole year clean.
- The teal flag: after a slip, a teal flag marks your best climb on the mountain.
Around the valley
| Thing | How to find it |
|---|---|
| The bridge lanterns | Open the app after dark. |
| Wildflowers on the trail | Resist an urge on a quit habit. |
| A golden day | Finish everything that is due today. |
| A cottage | Finish a task. |
| A flower box | Finish 10 tasks. |
| A bench by the door | Finish 25 tasks. |
| A beehive | Finish 50 tasks. |
| A vegetable patch | Finish 100 tasks. |
The cottage and what it gains come with 1.3 (see "Tasks" in How Grove works). Added in 1.3
A golden day counts today's tasks too, from 1.3: every habit and every task due today done.
Hidden habits count too. A habit that is not in the valley still finds plants and flags.
