Grove guide MTWABP In

What's new

Every version of Grove and what it brought, newest first.

Updated

Throughout the guide, a badge such as "Added in 1.1" shows which version brought a feature.

On Google Play for everyone, October 2026

Grove 1.8 is the first version for everyone on Google Play, after closed testing from early October 2026. All that came in testing is in it:

Habits

  • Habits you build grow as plants. Habits you let go of are mountain trails, with urges resisted, slips met gently and the money you save.
  • Every day, some days of the week, a number of times a week, or more than once a day, and a stopwatch for habits timed in minutes.
  • Reminders, as many a day as you like, pauses for a holiday, spare days, a kinder first week, and filling in a day you missed.

The valley

  • The sky, the seasons and the weather follow your real day, in your city's climate, with the moon, shooting stars and meteor showers.
  • Animals and finds come as you keep going, with rewards for steady care. Ridge mountains, if you like them.
  • Look closer at your valley, replay how it grew, and let Grove's colours follow it.

Zen mode

  • Your valley full screen, with soft nature sounds, on phones and tablets, upright or sideways.
  • Make a wallpaper from it at any hour and in any weather.

Tasks

  • Tasks in lists of your own, in your order, with reminders.

Looking back

  • Your week, a calm look back at each week; Review, with every milestone you reach; all of a habit's history; and share cards.

Utilities

  • Notes, Moon phases with the Hindu tithi, and Sunrise and sunset, a month at a time.

Widgets and shortcuts

  • Six home-screen widgets: Today, Today ring, Your valley, Plant, Tasks and Clean streak; and shortcuts on Grove's icon.

Yours alone

  • No account, no ads, no tracking: Grove has no internet access. Back up to a file, or automatically.
  • Nine languages, and money in your own currency.

Grove 1.9, October 2026

A habit lock and search in Settings.

Privacy

  • Lock this habit, in a habit's editor, keeps one habit to yourself. Grove, its widgets and its notifications call it "Private habit", with a small lock on its row, until you unlock it with your fingerprint, face or screen lock. Its plant or trail stays in the valley, and you can still mark it done from its row. Unlocked, it locks again when you leave Grove. Which habits are locked stays on the device, out of backups.

Settings

  • Search settings, at the top of Settings, finds a setting by its name, the words under it or its section, in the language Grove speaks. Each result says where it is; a tap opens its page at the setting, which lights up for a moment.

Under the hood

  • The packages Grove is built with are brought up to their latest fixes.

Grove 1.8, October 2026, the first for everyone

A nearer zen on wide screens, zen on upright tablets, every time counted in Your week, and widget fixes.

Your week

  • For a habit done more than once a day, Times done in Your week counts every time, not each day once, and the habit's row says how many in all, such as "9 times in all".
  • The week's share card counts every time in its Times done too.

Zen mode

  • On a wide screen, such as a computer's or a tablet or phone held sideways, zen draws the valley nearer: the land fills most of the screen, so its plants and mountains are larger. Its wider meadow has more grass and wildflowers, with tall grass along the bottom, so it isn't bare while your plants are few or young.
  • On a wide screen, zen's birds and clouds keep the size they have on a phone, rather than growing with the screen.
  • On a tablet or an open foldable held upright, zen shows sideways, as it does on a tablet held sideways: turn the device to its left to see it. While you make a wallpaper, zen is upright.

Seasons

  • In the monsoon climate, wildflowers bloom in the meadow in the monsoon and after the rains, as they do in spring and summer.

Widgets

  • On narrow Today and Your valley widgets, the Week done tag stays whole in every language, its words a little smaller where they must be. Where the streak has no room beside it, the tag lines up under the habit's name.
  • The Plant widget's smallest sizes, 1×1 and 2×2, show how many times a weekly habit was done today, as its larger sizes do, once it was done more than once.

Grove 1.7.1, October 2026, in closed testing

Fixes for ridge mountains, the stopwatch, the tithi timeline and the words.

Ridge mountains

  • A quit habit's share card and poster show its own ridge, as its page does, not the old snowy peak.
  • Replaying the introduction shows the ridges all the way through, not the old peaks.
  • In zen mode, a climber who has just set out stands in full view, not past the screen's edge.
  • With the ridges turned off, a fourth mountain keeps its place for when they come back: choosing the valley's mountains, or editing one, no longer takes it out. A habit you make room for gets the place.
  • On a quit habit's page, flag labels near the picture's edge no longer sit on the trail.
  • The valley lays out faster, as each look of the mountains is made only where it is drawn.

The valley

  • The deer moves when a plant grows big enough to hide him.

The stopwatch

  • Archiving or deleting a habit stops its stopwatch, so a habit brought back from the archive no longer shows days of time to add. So does changing a habit so it is no longer counted in seconds or minutes.
  • Restoring a backup stops any stopwatch that was running, so its time can't end up on another habit.
  • A quick double tap on Save, in the stopwatch or in the sheet for an amount, saves once, and no longer closes the habit's page too.
  • Saving a few seconds on a habit counted in minutes says how much was added, such as "0.02 min", not "0 min".

Moon phases

  • With a larger font size on the device, the tithi timeline's names, times and dates grow with it, up to one and a half times, and its rows and hours make room for them.
  • A moonrise, moonset or main phase in the last half minute of a month shows on the month's last day. Before, neither month listed it.
  • A time in a day's last half minute reads 11:59 PM, on its own day, not 12:00 AM: on Moon phases, Sunrise and sunset and in zen mode.
  • Where the sun doesn't rise, as in a polar night or under the midnight sun, the tithi timeline no longer marks a sunrise.
  • On a day the clocks change, the tithi timeline's hour lines sit at the right hours.
  • In a short window, such as a phone on its side, the words above the tithi timeline scroll away with the days, so more of them fit.

Words

  • In Vietnamese, Utilities is now called "Công cụ", so it is no longer the same word as the home-screen widgets.
  • In Indonesian, seconds are written "dtk", the usual short form, which Record time knows as a unit.
  • In Japanese, "Surya Siddhanta" is written as it is, like the tithi names beside it.
  • In French, a colon, question mark or percent sign no longer starts a line on its own, and neither do « ».

Grove 1.7, October 2026, in closed testing

Habits done more than once a day, a stopwatch, Moon phases and Sunrise and sunset, ridge mountains and a Tasks widget that shows more.

The pages

  • Achievements is now Review, with an open book in the bar: Your week at the top, then your achievements, as before.
  • The Unlocked page's ⋯ menu swaps it for Utilities, which holds that place in the bar until the ⋯ menu on Utilities swaps it back.

Moon phases

  • Moon phases shows the moon a month at a time: on the Unlocked page, tap ⋯, then Utilities. Arrows turn the month, and a calendar button goes to any date. Each day shows the moon as it looks and how much of it is lit. The day of a new moon, a quarter or a full moon shows the time it comes, such as "Full moon at 9:42 AM".
  • With a city chosen for your sky, each day shows when the moon rises and sets there.
  • With the Hindu calendar on, each day shows its tithi too: the one at sunrise, and when it ends, then the same by the Surya Siddhanta, as traditional printed panchangs reckon it.
  • A button turns the days into a timeline of the tithis: each day from midnight to midnight, both reckonings, sunrise, and on today the time now, so you can see where each tithi starts and ends, and which lasts all day.

Sunrise and sunset

  • Sunrise and sunset shows a month at a time for the city you chose for your sky, with the same arrows and calendar: on the Unlocked page, tap ⋯, then Utilities. Each day shows when the sun rises and sets, how long it is up and how that changed from the day before, such as "11 h 43 min of daylight, 1 min less".
  • A bar under each day shows its light from midnight to midnight: night, first light, the hours of sun, last light.

Habits

  • A habit can be done more than once a day, such as brushing your teeth: turn on More than once a day when you add or edit it. Once is enough for the day. After that, press and hold its drop to do it again, as many times as you like, each with Undo. Only the first time counts for the streak, the plant's growth and the week.
    • The drop shows how many times from the second, and the row says "Done 3 times today". A tap on a done drop says how many, and its Undo takes one off.
    • A past day's sheet sets its times with − and +. All history and Times done count every time, and the list of times done has a row for each, with the time it was done.
    • Each reminder stands for one time: with 7:30 and 22:00, brushing once in the morning still leaves the one at 22:00. Mark done adds a time, and says Done again once the habit is done.
    • On the Plant widget, every tap adds a time, with Again once it is done. On the Today and Your valley rows, a done drop has a small + to do it again.
  • In the list of times done, tap a time from the last week to change when you did it, on the same day. A day filled in on a later day no longer shows the time it was filled in as the time it was done.
  • A habit done a number of times a week shows when its week is done: a green Week done tag and a soft check in its drop on the Valley page. You can still complete it again, as an extra session.
  • A paused habit's row shows the drop's ring with a moon in it, as the widgets do, in place of the Resume button with words. Tap it to resume.
  • A habit with a goal in seconds or minutes has Record time: a stopwatch, on its page and in the sheet its drop opens. Save adds the time to today's amount, with Undo; in minutes, the seconds count too. It keeps running if you close it or leave Grove.

Widgets

  • The Plant widget's dots show this week, from the first day of your week, with the days still to come as faint rings. A new week starts with fresh dots, never last week's.
  • Each Tasks widget can show more: press and hold it (on Android 12 or newer) to choose between today's tasks; today's, then what's next once they are done; or everything to do. Later tasks come under Later, by day, and the rest under No date.
  • The rows on the Today, Tasks and Your valley widgets are roomier, with bigger text and buttons, and they sit close together.
  • The Today and Tasks widgets scroll: swipe their rows up and down when they don't all fit, in place of "4 more in Grove". The list fades at its edge where more rows wait.
  • A habit done for this week shows it on the Today and Your valley rows, with the same tag and check, and on the Plant widget, with a green ring. A tap still completes it today.
  • Names and headings on the widgets are in a bold serif, as in the app. Since 1.4.0 they had shown in plain type on the home screen.

Tasks

  • Two task lists can't share a name, whatever its capitals: making or renaming one to a name in use says so.
  • The lists on the Tasks page stay on one row that scrolls sideways, in the order you choose, with long names cut short, so many lists no longer fill the page.
  • A Lists button at the end of that row is always in reach. It opens every list in a sheet, each with how many tasks it has to do: tap one to show it, make a new one, rename or delete one, or drag one to a new place. With 8 lists or more, a field finds one by its name.
  • In a task's sheet, List shows the list the task is in. Tap it to choose another, or to make a new one.

Shortcuts

  • Zen mode is now near the end of the shortcuts on Grove's icon, as most launchers show only four.
  • Utilities, at the end of the shortcuts, opens Utilities.

A habit's page

  • Spare days are a plain blue leaf, as big as a day done, whose leaf is green: on the calendar and its legend, in All history, and in the row that counts them on a habit's page. The ring around the leaf is gone.
  • A weekly habit whose plant wilts after a short week says what will perk it up: "It is wilting because last week fell short. Do all of this week's sessions, and it will perk up when the next week begins." It had said a few days done in a row would, which a weekly habit's plant doesn't do.

The valley

  • A new day starts under a clear sky. The clouds for what's left to do gather in the two hours after sunrise, in place of clouding over at midnight.
  • One of the butterflies is a lemon yellow brimstone now, where it was blue.
  • Things in the valley are in proportion: the deer is well smaller than the cottage, the cottage a little bigger with its bench and beehive their own size, and the trees a little taller than the sunflowers and ferns. The deer grazes where the plants hide him least.
  • Ridge mountains, a new look for the mountains, in Settings → Valley and calendar: ridge after misty ridge with pines, each trail coming in from the side of the valley and climbing a skyline to its peak. A habit's page shows its mountain in a slice of the valley, with every flag. With ridges on, the valley has room for four mountains, not three. Off at first.
  • Rewards for steady care: after 100 days of keeping your habits, small warm lights hang along the bridge's rail each winter and glow after dark. They show at the top of the Unlocked page. On at first; turn them off in Settings → Reminders and encouragement.

Sounds

  • The sounds are softer and warmer: lower notes, with no metallic ring or bright glints, each one starting gently, and a little quieter.
  • In zen mode, the stream and the rain are warmer, and the birds quieter.

Zen mode

  • The moon's line names its phase more closely: New moon, First quarter, Full moon and Last quarter show for about a day either side of their moment, not three or four days, and they no longer come hours early.
  • One switch now turns on the Hindu calendar, in Settings → Valley and calendar → Calendar, in place of zen's choice of tithi or phase. Zen always shows the moon's phase; with the Hindu calendar on, its tithi too. It is on at first in India and Nepal, as the tithi was.
  • Under the tithi, a second line gives it by the Surya Siddhanta, as printed panchangs such as Lala Ramswaroop Ramnarayan's reckon it: "Surya Siddhanta: until 5:22 AM tomorrow". The two can end a tithi up to about four hours apart.
  • A tithi's end is given to the nearest minute.

Sharing

  • A week's card says when a habit was done more than the week asked, in green after how its week went: "Swim: 3 of 3 times + 2 extra", or "Yoga: 3 of 3 days + 1 extra" for a day it wasn't due.

Grove 1.6, October 2026, in closed testing

Colours that follow your valley, wallpapers, replaying your valley, many reminders a day and a shorter start.

A shorter start

  • The introduction is five pages, not nine, and ends by planting your first habit: pick one of six, or type your own, and it grows as the plant you tried. Saved days and slips are explained when they happen.

The Valley page

  • One tap on the drop completes a habit, with Undo after, as the widgets and reminders already did. To press and hold instead, so a stray tap doesn't count, turn off Complete with a tap in Settings → Look and feel.
  • A habit still to do has a ring of water around its drop; a done one shows a soft green check, so the ones left stand out.
  • As you complete a habit, its little plant swells and sparkles in its row, so you see it even with the valley scrolled away.
  • Finishing everything after dark is celebrated too: the moon glows wider, twice as many fireflies come out, and on a clear night a shooting star crosses the sky as you finish.
  • The habits come first. After them comes one card at a time: what is new, the look back at last week, or where you live.
  • Choose what grows shows only when there is a choice to make.
  • On a small phone the valley takes less of the screen, so more habits show.

Going back

  • Back takes you to the page you came from on the bar, as far as the Valley page, and leaves Grove only from there. It used to leave Grove from any page.
  • Going back from a habit's editor or a task's sheet with changes not saved asks first: Save or Discard.

Reminders

  • A habit can have as many reminder times a day as you like: add, change or take away each time in the habit's editor or in Settings → Reminders. Once the habit is done that day, the rest stay away, and each reminder goes away as the next comes, so a habit has one in your notifications at a time.

A habit's page

  • Rain days are now called spare days, to keep them apart from the valley's weather. They show as a leaf in a ring, in the calendar too.
  • Complete today, or I resisted an urge, comes straight under the name, as one button across the page. Once done, it says Completed today, with Undo. A habit with a goal shows how much is logged today, with Log an amount.
  • The history starts at the week the habit began, with no empty months.
  • When a habit reaches a milestone, the message has Share, for its card.

Letting go of a habit

  • After each urge, Resisted and I resisted an urge step away for a minute, so one urge is one tap rather than many. They come back at once if you undo the urge. The widgets' sprouts and the shortcut on Grove's icon do the same.

Sharing

  • Each week can be shared as a card: its dates, "A perfect week" or how many habits you kept up, and each habit with how its week went, such as "Morning jog: 7 of 7 days".
  • Cards come in new designs, to swipe between: Sky, just the sky and plain hills with your progress large in it; Numbers, your progress in figures with the last seven days or your milestones; and Words, text alone. The Picture and, for a habit you are letting go of, the Poster are as before.
  • Numbers and Words come light or dark. On Numbers, a habit with a unit can show its total, such as "2907 km in all", in place of the times done.
  • A clear sky on a card has no clouds.
  • A week's Sky card lists its habits under the sky and its hills, on the page as Grove shows its rows, rather than on a see-through panel.
  • On a small screen, the designs other than the one on show are dots without their names, so they keep to one line.
  • Every card now makes sense to someone who has never heard of Grove: it says Grove is a habit tracker, and puts progress in plain words, such as "404 days without it".

Replay your valley

  • Replay your valley, in the Achievements page's menu, plays your valley back from the day your first habit began: plants growing, climbers on their trails, the seasons turning and the visitors coming, with the month and what happened said over it. Pause it, or drag to any day.

Colours

  • Grove's colours can follow your valley: in Settings → Look and feel → Colours, pick Your valley. Autumn turns them to rust and amber, winter to pine and frost, and the monsoon to teal; the page warms at dawn and before sunset, turns lavender at dusk and cool at night, dulls under cloud and rain, and glows a little when everything is done.
  • Or pick Your device, on Android 12 and later, for the colours Android takes from your wallpaper.
  • Grove, the valley's greens, stays the colours Grove starts with. Each choice shows a little of its colours, and words stay easy to read in all of them.

Elsewhere

  • Settings → About has Grove on Google Play, to rate Grove or see what's new: it opens the Play Store app, or the page in the browser where there is no Play Store.
  • The days for a new task show once you tap Add a task.
  • A finished task opens with a tap in the Done list, with its note and steps, and when it was done.
  • A find from an earlier year shows its month, so its card keeps to one line.
  • The reminders page says Reminders once.
  • On and off choices, such as Shooting star on a card, stand as tall as the buttons beside them, on every page.
  • Every find's picture on the Unlocked page moves when you open it: stars twinkle, the sun and moon glow, the shooting star streaks across, and clouds drift. Some used to stand still.

Zen mode

  • Make a wallpaper, at the top of zen mode's controls: choose the time of day, from sunrise to night by the real sun where you are, and the weather, with a rainbow by day, and the valley shows it as you choose. Pinch to frame it, then Set as wallpaper, which opens Android's own wallpaper screen, or Save to photos. It is your own valley, at your screen's full size.
  • Zen mode can show today's sunrise and sunset under its clock, for your city. After sunset it shows tomorrow's sunrise.
  • It can show the moon too: by its phase and how much of it is lit, or by its tithi, the lunar day of the Hindu calendar, and when it ends. In India and Nepal it starts on the tithi.
  • Both are off at first: turn them on in Settings → Look and feel → Zen mode.
  • On a wide screen, such as a computer's, zen mode's river now winds on gently toward you, where it used to fan out and fold at one bank.
  • Each time zen mode or Grove opens, the shooting stars come at new moments; they used to be the same ones each time.

The sky

  • The valley's moon now follows the real one more closely: new and full moons come within a minute or so of the ones in almanacs.
  • Sunrise and sunset in zen mode are right near the poles, and for a city far from your device's time zone.

Reminders and widgets

  • Reminders keep coming even when you don't open Grove for a while.
  • Reminders and widgets follow a new time zone, a clock set by hand and a new language on your device.
  • Mark done on a reminder tapped after midnight marks the day the reminder was for, and the reminder stays until it is saved.
  • A tap on a widget just before midnight, or one Android cut short, is still saved, to the day it was made.
  • The Your valley widget no longer stops Grove on small, low-resolution screens.
  • Widgets follow a new city for your sky at once, and switch between day and night at the right time on the days the clocks change.

Smoother, and easier on the battery

  • The valley rests while another page is open, zen mode draws only the frames a second you chose, and Grove's clocks rest while it is in the background.
  • Watering a plant, scrolling a habit's page and scrolling the Unlocked page are smoother.

Fixes

  • Zen mode's sounds no longer start while Grove is in the background, or play on after you turn them off. Its shortcut, used while zen mode is open, leaves it as it is.
  • A restore that goes wrong says so and changes nothing. Settings from a backup show at once. A habit deleted before a backup never lends its number to a new one, so the new habit earns its own achievements.
  • An update cut off halfway, by a full disk or the app being closed, can no longer leave your habits out of reach.
  • Tapping Save twice adds a habit once, and text such as "NaN" isn't taken as a number.
  • On a computer, Grove opens even if its settings file was damaged.
  • On a computer, Share Grove is no longer offered in Settings → About, where it did nothing.
  • Only the urge shortcut on Grove's own icon can log an urge. Another app opening Grove with its link just opens Grove.
  • Something found the day before says Found yesterday on the Unlocked page on the day the clocks change too; it used to say Found today.
  • Zen's moon line gives the weekday when a tithi ends the day after tomorrow, as about eleven a year do, rather than calling it tomorrow.
  • A backup with an impossible date, such as the year 1, no longer slows the valley for seconds after each check-in.

From the review before the public release

A review of the whole app on 9 October 2026, for what an app with no telemetry could get wrong without anyone knowing, found and fixed:

  • An update cut off in the instant between its last step and its version being written could have left your habits unopenable on every start after. The version is now written with the update itself.
  • A damaged backup with an amount no device would write, such as 1e999 or a negative number, a schedule with no days, or a time zone no clock has, is refused rather than restored, as restoring one left every later backup, and the undo of the restore, failing.
  • A change that can't be written, such as on a device with no room left, now says so: "Couldn't save that. Try again." It used to look as if the tap did nothing.
  • A part of a page that fails to draw shows a short kind line in its place rather than a bare grey box.
  • A check-in just after midnight goes to the new day; the page used to turn the day up to half a minute late.
  • A habit done so many times a week keeps its streak growing in a week with a pause in it, once what the pause left owed is done, rather than a week later.
  • The achievements are no longer worked out afresh every minute while Grove is open; only when something changed, a trail's next flag comes, or the day ends.
  • The look back at the week is offered without working the week out on every change.
  • A widget tap or a reminder's button, run while Grove is closed after you chose another language, no longer writes the widgets and reminders in the old one.
  • The daily automatic backup, when a folder answers too slowly, no longer shuts down the engine the app itself may be reading its habits through.
  • An automatic backup is written to a file of its own first and renamed once whole, so a backup cut short never sits under the newest name.
  • The tall Your valley widget's date is in Grove's language, like the rest of it.
  • A reminder whose moment passed in the instant the week's plan was being handed to Android used to stop the whole plan, so every new or changed reminder went missing until the next check-in; it now shows at once and the rest are planned.
  • Reminders are handed to Android in UTC, so a change to a time zone's summer-time rules after this version can no longer put them an hour off.
  • The reminders are planned off the main thread, so a long history no longer stalls the valley for a moment after each check-in.
  • The widgets' night and morning skies are at the right hour on the days the clocks change.
  • With a large font size set on the device, the habit list, the page bar, the hour chart, the share sheet's slider and the empty Achievements page no longer cut words off; the bar's labels stay on one line. Every page is now tested at larger font sizes too.
  • Grove asks for permission to send notifications when the first habit is planted, so the evening nudge and the milestones, on by default, can come on Android 13 and later; it used to ask only when a reminder time was set, and they never came.
  • With animations turned off on the device, the Unlocked page's big pictures stand still.
  • On a computer, the water button can be reached with Tab and pressed with Enter or Space, with a ring to show it has focus.
  • Zen mode's valley has a label for a screen reader.
  • A habit's name is at most 60 characters; a cost or amount per day below zero is not taken; the start date picker opens even for a start date after the device's clock.
  • A quick double tap opens a habit's page or the editor once.
  • Amounts are written as the language writes them, such as "2,5" in German, and money as the language in use writes it where the city gives no other way.

Grove 1.5, October 2026, in closed testing

Looking closer at your valley, and Vietnamese.

Languages

  • Grove speaks Vietnamese, as well as English, Hindi, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Japanese and Indonesian. Pick Tiếng Việt in Settings → Look and feel → Language, or let Grove follow your device. The home-screen widgets, reminders and dates follow it too.

The valley

  • Pinch the valley with two fingers to look closer, up to four times, on the Valley page and in zen mode. Drag to look around, and tap a plant, a mountain or the cottage to open it as usual.
  • Pinch back, or tap the magnifier, See the whole valley, to see all of it again. Going to another page, or leaving zen mode, does too.
  • On a computer, hold Ctrl and turn the mouse wheel, or press + and −.
  • In zen mode, a screenshot shows the valley as closely as you are looking at it, and tilting still works while you look closer.
  • Up close, rain and snow fall in front of the valley at their own size, and the stars stay small points of light.
  • The valley's small things now hold up close: the drops of water on a plant done today are clear drops with a glint, a grown pine's cones hang from its branches, and the wildflowers by a trail have petals.

Grove 1.4, October 2026, in closed testing

Eight languages, shooting stars and meteor showers, tasks put in order, a look for share cards, and money in your own currency.

Languages

  • Grove speaks Hindi, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Japanese and Indonesian, as well as English. It follows your device's language at first, and English where it doesn't know it yet. To keep one language, pick it in Settings → Look and feel → Language, where each is named in its own words. Dates, the home-screen widgets and reminders follow it too. On Android 13 and newer it is also in the device's own setting for the app's language.

The valley

  • Shooting stars cross the night sky now and then, about one every few minutes, on the Valley page and in zen mode. They need a clear, dark sky, and pass above the mountains. Now and then one is a fireball: bigger, slower and warm, with sparks falling behind it.
  • On the nights of the year's great meteor showers, such as the Perseids in August and the Geminids in December, many more come, all streaming out from one point of the sky.
  • The first shooting star you see is a new find on the Unlocked page.
  • The bridge has a lantern on each of its four posts, lit after dark.
  • A habit's page shows its plant or mountain in the valley as it is now, as its share card does: the sky at this hour with the sun or the moon, today's clouds, rain and any rainbow, the far mountains and the meadow.

Tasks

  • Put your tasks in order: drag a task by the dots at the end of its row, among the other tasks for the same day. Starred tasks stay first, and tasks with a time keep the order of their times. A task moved on from a day that has passed now goes with today's tasks.
  • Put a task's steps in order, by the dots beside each step.
  • A task with a time has On time, 10 minutes before and 30 minutes before under its reminder, to set it in one tap.
  • A task offers a reminder once it has a date. Taking the date away takes its reminder too.

  • Choose how a habit's share card looks, under the card: the time of day on a slider over the day's skies, which sticks at Sunrise, Day, Golden hour and Night and stops anywhere between; clear, cloudy or rain; and a Rainbow in daylight, close by and wide, which moves with the hour as a real one would, or a Shooting star at night. A night card is dark under the picture too. Grove remembers your choice for the next card.
  • A habit you are letting go of can share a poster instead: swipe the picture from the card to the poster, where the mountain and its trail fill the picture, with the clean time large in the sky above.
  • Every card has a QR code in its corner that opens Grove on Google Play, and the picture takes more of the card, with the words closer together under it.

Money

  • Money saved is shown in the currency of the country your sky is in, such as rupees for a city in India, written the way that country writes numbers. Before, it followed the device's language, which gave dollars to most. Choose another in Settings, Valley and calendar, Money.

The look

  • The rounded tiles behind plants, mountains, tasks and finds all have the same corners now, so they look like one family across the app.
  • The home-screen widgets write in Grove's own fonts, as the app does, and their rows have even, rounded corners, like the rows in the app.

Words

  • Habits are now completed, not watered. The hints by the drop, the messages, the habit's log of times done, the widgets and the reminders all say done or complete, such as "Morning jog completed." and "Your oak is waiting for you". Water with a tap in Settings is now Complete with a tap, and the Plant widget's button says Complete.
  • A habit done for the day now says "Completed today", in the app and on the home-screen widgets, rather than "Watered today". The Plant widget's Done button has no tick.

Fixes

  • A task's sheet, a day's sheet on a habit's page, and the sheet for today's amount keep their last button clear of the navigation bar. Before, the bar could cover it.
  • In zen mode, the sheet for sharing the valley is a plain dark panel rather than a blurred one, so the valley behind it stays smooth.

Grove 1.3.1, October 2026, in closed testing

Pages kept clear of the camera and the buttons on a phone held sideways.

Fixes

  • On a phone held sideways, a habit's page, All history, the habit editor and Settings keep clear of the camera's cutout and of navigation buttons at the side of the screen. Before, some rows and buttons ran under them.

Grove 1.3, October 2026, in closed testing

Tasks, an introduction, a choice of seasons, Settings as pages and edit history.

Getting started

  • A short introduction plays the first time Grove opens. It shows how plants and trails work, with a plant to pick and water and a climb to move on yourself, what a rain day does after a missed day, and what happens after a slip, then a year of a valley in a few seconds, through the seasons, with a line for each visitor as it comes and a bar to move through the year by hand. It ends with what else Grove can do, with switches to turn on tasks and notes, and how it keeps your data to itself, offline. It is shown by day, under a clear sky, whatever the time. At the end, the valley settles into its place on the Valley page, under your own sky.
  • Skip leaves it at any time. Watch it again in Settings, About, Introduction.
  • Your first habit to grow starts with the plant you picked in the introduction.
  • If you had Grove before, a card on the Valley page says once what is new, with a way to watch the introduction.

Tasks

  • Tasks: one-off things to do, such as "Call the bank", on a new Tasks page in the bar. They are off at first: turn them on in Settings, Tasks. Turned off again, they are kept for when you want them back.
  • Add a task from the field at the top of the page, for today, tomorrow, this weekend, next week or a day you pick, or with no date.
  • Tasks are grouped by day. A task whose day has passed moves into today, quietly, with a small note such as "from Fri".
  • Give a task a note or a time, and star it to put it first in its day.
  • Steps inside a task: a short checklist, such as what to pack.
  • Lists, such as Home and Work: show one list at a time, or every task.
  • A month view of your tasks, with a mark on each day that has some. On a wide window it sits beside the list.
  • "Add a task" when you press and hold Grove's icon.
  • A Tasks widget for your home screen: today's tasks. Tap a circle to finish one, or + to add one.
  • A reminder for a task, at the day and time you choose, with Done, Remind me in an hour and Tomorrow on it. Turn task reminders off in Settings, Tasks.
  • A task's time reads "Due at 10:00 AM", with Change time beside it.
  • A task's reminder has a heading of its own and a Change reminder button, and says how far before the task it comes, such as "30 minutes before the task". When the task's day or time changes, its reminder moves with it and stays as far before.
  • Finished tasks go to the Done list, where you can put one back.
  • The Valley page lists today's tasks under your habits.
  • Today's tasks count for the sky, as habits do: the clouds clear and the rain eases as you finish them, and the valley turns golden once everything due today is done.
  • A cottage appears on the meadow with your first finished task. It gains a flower box, a bench, a beehive and a vegetable patch as you finish more, and never loses anything. Tap it to open your tasks.
  • Five new things to find for the cottage, and new achievements: 1, 10, 50 and 100 tasks done, and a clear day.
  • Your week says how many tasks you finished.
  • A soft paper sound when you finish a task, if sounds are on.
  • Tasks are in backups, with your habits.

Habits

  • Edit history, in the ⋮ menu on a habit's page: every change to its name, plant, days, goal, reminder, costs or milestones, newest first.
  • Opening a habit, its name moves from its row to the heading on its page, and back again.

Seasons

  • Choose the seasons your valley lives through, in Settings, Valley and calendar, Seasons: as where you live, as at first; four seasons with a snowy winter; the southern four; or the monsoon. Kashmir and Himachal, which Grove counted as monsoon country, can have their snow. The sun and moon still follow where you live.

The valley

  • Small birds visit a grown oak: robins, blue tits, red-whiskered bulbuls and sparrows, alone or up to four at a time. They sit on its crown a while, drop into its leaves, or burst out of them and away, by day.
  • The trails are paths of stone steps that follow the rock: they bend over the mountains' ridges and round their hollows, turn darker on the faces in shade, and the steps you have climbed are gold. Before, a trail was a smooth band laid over the mountain.
  • At sunrise and sunset the snow and high rock of the trail mountains glow rose, as real peaks do. A cloudy sky hides most of it.

Zen mode

  • Zen mode no longer dims the screen late at night. Its light follows the sky alone.

Settings

  • Settings is now a short list of pages, such as Look and feel or Backup and privacy, rather than one long page. On a wide window the list and a page sit side by side.
  • Settings, About has links to the user guide and to Grove's Discord. They open in your browser.

Fixes

  • An old widget row or notification for a habit you have since archived opens Archived habits, rather than an empty page.
  • Restore lists your automatic backups, newest first, so there is no need to find the file.
  • A widget's plant no longer keeps its paused sign after a pause ends by its date.
  • With Vibration off, pressing and holding an urge or a slip no longer buzzes.
  • Grove opens only once. Opened again, from its icon, a widget or a shortcut, it brings back the Grove already open. On a computer, a second start brings its window forward.
  • Raising a habit's goal, or giving it more days, no longer takes away days you already did. Each day keeps the goal and the days it had, and a change counts from the day you make it.

Grove 1.1, October 2026, in closed testing

Missed days, pauses, automatic backups and Your week.

Habits

  • Fill in or change any of the last 7 days from a habit's calendar.
  • All history: every month of a habit as a calendar, with a total for each.
  • Pause a habit you build for a holiday or a busy time: the streak waits and no reminders come until you resume. Give the pause a reason if you like, such as Holiday, A busy time or A break.
  • A paused plant rests, with straw at its foot and a small moon sign: in the valley, on its page and on the widgets, which say "Paused until" and the day it ends.
  • Paused days have a small moon on a habit's calendar and in All history, and Your week names the reason, such as "2 days paused · Holiday".
  • Archive a habit instead of deleting it: it keeps its history and its achievements, and you can restore it any time from Settings, Archive.
  • Add a note to an urge or a slip, such as what set it off.
  • Log an urge or a slip you forgot, up to 7 days back. A slip logged earlier restarts the climb from when it happened.
  • Undo after logging a slip. Motivate me is now a card on the habit's page for 3 days after a slip.
  • Put habits in your own order: Reorder habits, at the end of the Valley page. The valley and the widgets follow the order.
  • Ready-made habits to start from: Drink water, Read, Walk, Meditate, Stretch, Journal.
  • Your week: a calm look back at last week and the weeks before, from the Achievements page. A small card on the Valley page offers it for the first 3 days of each week (turn it off in Settings, Encouragement).
  • Choose the day your week starts on: Monday, Sunday or Saturday (Settings, Calendar). Calendars and "per week" habits follow it.
  • Start a "per week" habit in the middle of a week and the days before count as done, so your first week can still keep the streak.

Widgets, reminders and shortcuts

  • "Remind me in an hour" on habit reminders, even with Grove closed.
  • Keep quit habits private (Settings, Privacy): widgets and notifications don't show their names, and the app switcher shows a plain card.
  • Shortcuts on Grove's icon: Zen mode, Add a habit, I resisted an urge.
  • Fixed: a quick double tap on a widget's sprout logged two urges.
  • Fixed: tapping a widget while Grove was open put a second Valley page behind the page it opened.

Backups

  • Automatic backups: Grove saves a backup to a folder you choose every day, week or month, only when something has changed, and keeps the newest 3, 5, 10 or 30 (Settings, Backup).
  • Settings shows your last automatic backup, and says plainly if the folder can't be reached, with a way to fix it. If backups have failed for three days, a quiet notification says so once.
  • The restore preview counts archived habits apart.

Look and feel

  • Choose a light or dark theme, or follow the device.
  • Water with a tap instead of press and hold (Settings, Accessibility).
  • Vibration: a soft tap for more of what you do, such as saving a habit, filling in a day or tapping Undo. Turn it off in Settings, Sounds and vibration.
  • Screen readers name each plant and trail in the valley picture.
  • Zen mode has a gentle sense of depth when you tilt your phone or tablet: the meadow moves most, the hills less, the mountains a little and the sky hardly at all, and nearer plants slide past farther ones. It follows the smallest turn at once and settles back when you hold still. On a computer, the mouse tilts it. Turn it off in Settings, Zen mode, Tilt the valley.
  • Zen mode: soft chords, slow warm music to rest to. One Sounds button now holds all of zen's sound settings, and zen runs more smoothly.
  • The sun and moon rise out of the hills and set into them, and glide smoothly across the sky wherever you live.
  • Finish your habits on a dry day and the sky clears.
  • Zen mode dims gently late in the evening.
  • Widgets keep the sky of your chosen place after a tap or a reminder.
